About the TFI test

ABOUT THE TFI TEST

The TFI™ test (Test de français international™), a language proficiency test for non-native speakers of French, measures and certifies the French skills of people working in a professional context. A test for language learners of all levels, regardless of occupation or background, the TFI test is recognised worldwide as a reliable assessment of business French.

WHO USES THE TFI TEST?

  • Training organisations use the TFI test to group students homogeneously, validate their progress with an unbiased external test, and consequently boost their motivation.
  • In academic institutions, the TFI test enables students to validate their French-language proficiency and compare their level against the requirements of the business environment.
  • Individuals choose to take the TFI test to determine their true level of proficiency and have it validated by an external measure. If you are looking to build language capabilities, demonstrate multilingual skills or work in different locations, it is always helpful to certify your French using an internationally recognised certification test.
  • Companies and government agencies use the TFI test as an important recruitment tool. They use the scores to define minimum language requirements for specific jobs. The TFI test can also be used as an evaluation tool in training programmes.

FORMAT OF THE TEST

Based on real-life work situations, the TFI test consists of 180 multiple-choice questions divided into 2 sections.

The listening section consists of:

  • Part 1: Question-answer
  • Part 2: Short dialogues
  • Part 3: Short conversations

The reading section comprises:

  • Part 1: Error identification
  • Part 2: Incomplete sentences
  • Part 3: Comprehension

The test lasts approximately 2.5 hours. Scores are awarded separately for the 2 sections, based on a scale ranging from 5 to 495 points. Hence, the total score will be between 10 and 990 points.

Test takers receive a TFI certificate, an internationally recognised document that highlights your level of French competence.
